Flood-damaged preschool receives EUR 30,000 donation

SVILAJNAC -- The preschool institution "Dečja Radost" ("Children's Joy") in Svilajnac has received a donation in the amount of EUR 30,000 from German company Muehlbauer.

The donation was paid through the sponsor of the kindergarten's reconstruction, the B92 Fund.

On this occasion, the fund's director, Veran Matić, and representatives Muehlbauer Ivan Milić and Martin Stevovski visited Svijalnac and presented a check to Mayor Predrag Milanović and the kindergarten's director, Zorica Đorđević.

According to Milanović, the first phase of repairs has already started, and involves clearing and preparation for the reconstruction of the facilities damaged during the catastrophic flooding in May.

"We owe big debt of gratitude to Veran Matić and the B92 Fund who had the sensibility and found the time and a way to help us. These are significant resources at this time, it will help us in the first phase of works, but won't be enough to repair everything. That's why I urge other donors to join the campaign and help children in Svijalnac have a kindergarten ready by the fall," the mayor said.

Matić emphasized that this was the first major campaign of the Fund when it came to the post-flood rebuilding efforts, and that the primary goal was to help the youngest.

"The restoration of the kindergarten takes a lot of resources, more than half a million euros, but I think that we can collect the money with the help of socially responsible companies, good people and individuals, and we already have more announcements of donations. Donors can deposit their donations through the site donacije.rs or can contact us directly," he explained.
