The Court of Appeals of Bucharest added six months to the four-year prison sentence of former Prime Minister Adrian Nastase in two cases; the court ruled on Tuesday that Nastase must serve an overall prison term of four and a half years.

The ruling is final, following an appeal of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) to the May 8 decision of the Bucharest Tribunal, which merged Nastase's two terms in prison without adding any supplement.

DNA prosecutors asked for a supplement of Nastase's prison term, mentioning his 'spiteful and defamatory' attitude both during his trials and after being convicted.

The High Court of Cassation and Justice has sentenced Nastase on January 6, 2014 to two terms of prison — four years without suspension for accepting bribery, and three years for blackmail. In a separate case, Nastase served eight months of a two-year prison sentence pronounced on June 20, 2012; he was then released on parole. AGERPRES
