Explosive Device Found on Kosovo Security Force Member's Property

The spokesperson of the Kosovo Security Force Ministry, Ibrahim Shala, confirmed on Sunday that an explosive device was found strapped to a tree on the property of a member of Kosovo Security Force, KSF, on Saturday evening in Serb-run North Mitrovica in northern Kosovo.

Shala told BIRN that the unexploded explosive device was found in the backyard of a KSF member who belongs to the city's Bosnian community.

"The unexploded device was exploded by Kosovo Police which is handling the case. There were no injured [persons] as the device did not explode [when thrown]," Shala told BIRN on Sunday.

The motive for the attack is yet unclear.

It comes after Kosovo's government on October 18 approved a new KSF bill, expanding its competences but avoiding the need for constitutional changes required to change it into a regular army.

The decision faced bitter opposition from Serbia and from the Serbian minority in Kosovo, who have long opposed Pristina's efforts to form a regular army.
