Honorary doctorate for Spanish endocrinologist Casanueva

BELGRADE- Professor of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology Felipe Casanueva from Spain received an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade at the Rectorate building on Wednesday.

Upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade University Rector Vladimir Bumbasirevic presented Professor Casanueva from the University of Santiago de Compostela with the honorary doctorate.

Casanueva got the honorary doctorate for exceptional scientific achievements in the field of endocrinology, successful scientific cooperation and promotion of researchers from the University of Belgrade.

Offering the reasoning behind the proposal, Professor Dragan Micic drew attention to the Spanish doctor's rich research career and emphasized that Professor Casanueva published 372 articles in prestigious medical journals.

The Spanish endocrinologist took part in numerous congresses, held many lectures by invitation, hugely contributed to the work of professional associations and got several prizes and recognitions.

As Micic put it, the cooperation with the University of Belgrade began at the most difficult time for Serbia, in the 1990s ( in the time of the sanctions, conflicts, and NATO aggression), and Casanueva helped colleagues in Serbia in every possible way, even by supplying reagents.

Professor Nebojsa Lalic, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, underlined that Professor Casanueva helped the academic community in Serbia in many aspects, from improvements in working conditions to affirmation of researchers from Serbia, and added that 64 joint works have been published in world journals.
