Chief of Police in Bulgaria's Smolyan Removed from Office

Evgeni Vasilev, Chief of Police in Bulgaria's town of Smolyan has been removed from office, Darik news website reports.

Disciplinary proceeding has been opened against Vasilev, and there is an ongoing inspection conducted in the District Police Directorate, deputy caretaker minister and former chief of police in Smolyan Kiril Hadzhihristev confirmed.

So far, no specific reasons that led to the removal from office of the Police Chief have been announced. However, Interior Minister Yordan Bakalov noted that Smolyan was among the police departments that had remained 'passive' during the last parliamentary elections, Nova news informs.

The 48-year-old Evgeni Vasilev became chief of police in Smolyan in September 2013.
