Election Bureau - provisional final results: Iohannis 54.43 pct, Ponta 45.56 pct
Christian Liberal Alliance's candidate Klaus Iohannis got 54.43 percent of the vote in the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, while Prime Minister Victor Ponta, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party - National Union for Romania's Progress - Conservative Party alliance polled 45.56 percent, according to the provisional final data released by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on Wednesday after centralizing the reports from all the 18,847 polling stations, accounting for 100 percent of the total.
According to the BEC figures, Iohannis polled 6,288,769 votes and Ponta 5,264,383.
The total number of the voters who went to the polls was 11,719,344, namely 64.10 percent, of which 10,042,721 were registered with the permanent voter rolls, 1,569,668 with additional lists and 106,955 have cast their vote in the mobile ballot box.
Out of the ballots cast, 1.41 percent were void, namely 166,111.
According to the provisional results released by BEC, the total number of Romanian citizens from abroad who went to the polls was 379,116.
The Election Bureau will receive on Wednesday several voting reports and results summaries from various counties. On Thursday, the Bureau will forward to the Constitutional Court of Romania the final report for validation, BEC spokesperson Marian Muhulet said.AGERPRES
