Beşiktaş takes lead in Spor Toto Super League

Beşiktaş took over the top spot in the Spor Toto Super League standings with a hard-fought victory against Kardemir Karabükspor.

The Istanbul club’s Senegalese Demba Ba striker scored twice for the visiting Black Eagles as they beat Karabükspor 2-1 yesterday to move to the top of the table with 23 points.

Karabükspor’s single goal came just seven minutes before the final whistle and was scored by midfielder Musa Çağıran.

Meanwhile, during stoppage time, Beşiktaş striker Mustafa Pektemek received a red card after a harsh sliding tackle.

In yesterday’s other league game, Trabzonspor trashed visiting Gençlerbirliği 4-1 to win its second game in a row under new coach Ersun Yanal.      

Trabzonspor’s Paraguayan player Oscar Cardozo was the hero of the night for the home side, scoring a hat-trick. Özer Hurmacı added one more for the home side, while Gençlerbirliği’s only goal came from Mervan Çelik.

With three goals yesterday, Cardozo climbed to the second spot in the top scorers list of the Spor Toto Super League with eight, one goal behind top scorer Theofanis Gekas of Akhisar Belediye.

Beşiktaş’s Ba is in the third spot with seven goals.
