In newspaper clash, Delo blocks sale of Večer
Ljubljana – Newspaper publisher Delo has blocked the sale of regional rival Večer over a printing contract that Delo’s in-house print shop lost as a result, according to a report in Saturday’s Delo.
Delo reports that the Ljubljana District Court has issued a temporary injunction prohibiting the sale of Večer Mediji, one of the two companies into which Večer was split prior to its sale.
The printing contract was not transferred onto the new entity prior to the sale and Delo sued for the failure to honour the EUR 2.1 million contract.
Večer was sold to a group of affiliated companies that make up a sprawling media empire indirectly controlled by Martin Odlazek, a conglomerate which also includes a printing company that now prints Večer.
Odlazek controls a large chunk of the Slovenian print market, with a stable of magazines and two daily newspapers.
Several investigative reports have shown he has been able to skirt rules prohibiting media concentration with a complex network of cross-holdings.
