Filipovic Europe's best water polo player, Pijetlovic second

LUXEMBOURG - Filip Filipovic, a member of Serbia's water polo team, was declared Europe's best player in 2014, according to LEN, the European governing body for aquatic sports.

The Pro Recco player got 56.1 percent of the vote, followed by his fellow player and Serbia's goalkeeper Gojko Pijetlovic with 22.8 percent. Daniel Varga of Hungary secured the third place with 5.3 percent of the vote.

Dusan Mandic managed to get into the top five players, behind the fourth-ranked Denes Varga from Hungary.

This is the second time Filipovic has earned the title of Europe's best water polo player (2009), and he was also declared the world's best player in 2014.

With the national team, he triumphed at the European championship in Hungary and the World League in Dubai in 2014.
