No Wave Of Turned Away Refugees Expected
Bulgaria's Interior Ministry and Refugee Agency do not expect a wave of refugees, turned away from other EU countries.
According to deputy interior minister Plamen Angelov, so far there are single inquiries from Germany and Hungary.
Angelov told the BNR public broadcaster that the turning away of refugees in the EU is in accordance with the Dublin Regulation.
“The total number of such cases in 2013 was 98,” he said. “There are no indications that this year will be much different. But either way, it will not threaten the system.
The deputy head of the Refugee Agency Vasil Varbanov confirmed that there are only two-three inquiries in the agency.
“Currently the biggest problem is the integration of refugees,” Varbanov said. “Only a small number get visas, the majority have humanitarian status, which means that they will remain in Bulgaria.”
