22nd 'Ciresoaia' Mountain Huntsmen Battalion, to participate in new mission in Afghanistan
Servicemen of 22nd 'Ciresoaia' Mountain Huntsmen Battalion of Sfantu Gheorghe will participate in a new mission of the Romanian Army in the theatre of operations of Afghanistan.

National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa in Sfantu Georghe on Friday said that 61st Miercurea Ciuc Mountain Huntsmen Brigade, which the Battalion of Sfantu Gheorghe is also part of, together with the Brigade of Bistrita, will go to Afghanistan in August in the NATO Resolute Support mission.
Mircea Dusa mentioned that the 22nd 'Ciresoaia' Mountain Huntsmen Battalion is part of the elite troops of the Romanian Army, which are trained to deal with any military mission both in the country, to defend Romania's borders and sovereignty, and in abroad missions, together with NATO's and the European Union's partners.
The servicemen of the 22nd Mountain Huntsmen Battalion also participated in missions in the theatres of operations of Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans, and in 2013 ? 2014 they participated, together with the US Marines deployed in Europe, in training modules of the multinational drills in the Black Sea.
On Friday, the National Defence Minister decorated 22nd 'Ciresoaia' Mountain Huntsmen Battalion of Sfantu Gheorghe with the Order of Military Virtue in rank of Knight with peace ensign, awarded by Romania's President at the celebration of 75 years since establishment. The event was marked by a ceremony at the military unit headquarters, attended, among others, by Head of the Romanian General Staff Lieutenant General Nicolae Ciuca and His Beatitude Andrei Fagarasanu, Bishop of Covasna and Harghita, local authorities, reserve officers, veterans, servicemen and their relatives.
