Nikolic, Brasseur on Serbia's goals, role in region

BELGRADE - Serbia is a modern, democratic country, ordered in accordance with European standards, which wants to enable its citizens to live like people in developed European countries, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said in the meeting with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur on Tuesday.

Nikolic underscored that it is highly important for Serbia to establish lasting stability in South-East Europe and develop the cooperation between countries in the (Balkans) region, the president's press service said in a release.

EU membership is Serbia's strategic goal, and our country is willing to do everything it can to achieve that objective, he underlined.

Brasseur said that Serbia plays a very important role in the region, and described as extremely important the fact that it is taking on the initiative to establish the best possible relations between the countries in the region, says the release.
