Live Blog: Montenegrin Parliamentary Elections 2023
- More than 542,000 Montenegrin citizens are eligible to vote at 1,038 polling stations.
- The last parliamentary elections in August 2020 saw Milo Djukanovic's Democratic Party of Socialists ousted from power after almost three decades.
- In April, Europe Now movement candidate Jakov Milatovic, supported by ruling majority parties, won the presidential election run-off, ousting veteran leader Djukanovic as head of state.
- Since December 2020, Montenegro has endured almost constant political turbulence and two governments have been ousted.
- Fifteen electoral lists are competing for the 81-seat parliament. The largest are the centrist Europe Now, the coalition of the URA and Democratic Montenegro, the pro-Serbian For the Future of Montenegro, and the opposition Together bloc led by the Democratic Party of Socialists.
- For the first time, the economy was a key issue in the election campaign and most parties avoided the usual ethnic and religious disputes. Most electoral lists have been promising social welfare programs, higher salaries and new investments.
