Several opposition parties submit demand for early elections

BELGRADE - Several Serbian opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, the Party of Freedom and Justice and the Green-Left Front, on Monday submitted a formal demand for early parliamentary elections and early local elections in Belgrade before the end of this year.

The demand was submitted at the Presidency of Serbia in central Belgrade.

At a press conference outside the Presidency building, Democratic Party leader Zoran Lutovac said society was in a deep economic, political and social crisis and that there was no will to get out of it and that, in consequence, the parties demanded elections.

"We expect to get a response very soon, or we will undertake all that is necessary in and outside the parliament to exert pressure to get a response," Lutovac said, noting that the parties did not demand any elections, but free and fair elections.
