Fifty-one migrants rescued south of Crete
Some 51 migrants were rescued 33 miles southwest of the Cretan island of Gavdos on Friday afternoon.
The 51 migrants issued a distress call shortly after noon and, according to the coast guard, were picked up by a Liberian-flagged tanker.
The tanker is expected to transport the migrants to Hania, where port authorities will take charge of them.
