Doretta Papadimitriou on Psychotherapy: “I Was Not Well, I Was Mentally Struggling”
Regarding why she decided to see a psychologist, the actress said in an interview with the magazine “OK!”: “I was not well, even though I had no objective reasons for it. I was mentally struggling. Also, I was repeatedly on the receiving end of behaviors that I did not deserve. But I accepted them, justified them, and gave many chances.”
She also revealed the positive effects it had on her: “I came to love and respect myself more. The more you love and respect yourself, the less you allow others to come and disrupt that in any way. If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, it is at least not to invest where I see from the start that the ground is shaky. I learned it ‘the hard way.'”
In the same interview, she discussed her personal life and the possibility of a new relationship.
Specifically, when asked if she would like to be in a relationship, the actress replied: “It hasn’t happened. And I didn’t want it, and someone wanted it, and someone didn’t want it, and I wanted it. I don’t enjoy being alone, but on the other hand, I have learned over these years how important it is. Many people enter or stay in relationships because they do not like loneliness. I don’t have that need, and it relieves me. I am happy in my daily life, and if a partner comes along to enhance that, it would be perfect. But only to enhance it. And that’s not very simple. Generally, connecting with people is not easy. What matters is compatibility.”
She was also asked if she would like to be in love, to which she commented: “Who wouldn’t want that? Sure, I’ve faced disappointments, but I don’t give up. I haven’t lost hope in love and romance. I’ve simply removed the naivety of trusting words when they are not followed by actions.”
