Chios: Pursuit of migrant smuggler – 21 people rescued

On Wednesday, September 18th, the Central Port Authority of Chios was informed about a speedboat with foreign passengers moving in the sea area of Nenita, coming from the Turkish coast. A Coast Guard patrol boat was dispatched to the scene, where the speedboat’s operator performed dangerous maneuvers to avoid capture.

The Coast Guard managed to immobilize the speedboat and rescue 21 foreign nationals (10 men, 5 women, and 6 minors). The 27-year-old foreign smuggler was arrested for violating Law 3386/2005 (Illegal Entry into Greek Territory) and Article 25 of Law 5038/2023 (Immigration Code). The 21 foreigners were transferred to the Chios Registration and Identification Center (KEDN). An investigation is being conducted by the Port Authority.
