EOPYY (NHS): One of the defendants, known as Michel, sentenced to prison; three defendants released

One of the seven defendants who were questioned today in connection with the EOPYY fraud case has been sentenced to prison. This defendant, known as “Michel,” was reportedly the intermediary and trafficker of the illegally prescribed medications.

Additionally, this defendant was charged with finding insured individuals’ AMKA (social security numbers) and presenting himself, as needed, either as a doctor or a medical assistant, depending on whom he was dealing with.

It also emerged that he received medications, which he either delivered to the 51-year-old doctor, who is allegedly one of the “ringleaders” of the scheme, or distributed to third parties.

In contrast, three other defendants were released under restrictive conditions. Two of them are required to report to a police station and provide a bail of 10,000 euros.

The female doctor who was questioned today was released without restrictive conditions, and according to her lawyer, she presented evidence proving legitimate prescriptions.

The decision by the examining magistrate and prosecutor regarding the other three defendants who were questioned today is still awaited.

It should be noted that tomorrow, the remaining ten defendants in the case, including pharmacists and doctors, will give their statements.
