Pensioners protesting over pension cuts

BELGRADE - Representatives of the Association of Pensioners called on the Serbian parliament and the Constitutional Court on Wednesday to declare the decision about pension cuts as unconstitutional.

President of the Pensioners' Association Milorad Vujasinovic said that the aim of the protest organised in downtown Belgrade on Wednesday is to voice the dissatisfaction of the oldest Serbian citizens.

We want back what was seized from us, we are not asking for an increase, we just want back what was taken from us, Vujasinovic said and expressed the hope that the Constitutional Court would annul the decision of the government to reduce pensions.

In case this does not happen, the union will address the court in Strasbourg, he said.

Vujasinovic noted that a similar protest would probably be organised with other unions in Belgrade on May 1.

All pensions higher than RSD 25,000 were reduced in November 2014 within the government savings and expenditure reduction measures.
