Kilkis: 81-year-old woman falls victim to a phone scam involving her supposed granddaughter’s injury

An 81-year-old woman from a village in the municipality of Kilkis became the victim of a phone scam when an unknown man posing as a doctor claimed that her granddaughter had been seriously injured and required a substantial amount of money for medical treatment. The scammer demanded 88,000 euros for her granddaughter’s recovery.

To make the scam more convincing, a female accomplice pretended to be the injured granddaughter on the phone. Ultimately, the elderly woman was coerced into handing over 2,150 euros, which she had at home. The money was collected by a 37-year-old local man.

Following swift action by the Kilkis Security Police, the man who took the money was located and arrested. The money was returned to the victim, and the investigation continues to identify the accomplices and explore possible involvement in similar crimes.

The arrested man was charged and brought before the Kilkis Prosecutor’s Office.
