Police to investigate power company EPS

BELGRADE -- The Organized Crime Prosecutor has issued an official order for the police to look into the allegations about possible wrongdoings at the state-run company EPS.

The allegations are found in a report of the Anti-Corruption Council and concern "substantial discrepancies in the quantities of electricity imported and exported by the public company EPS from 2010 to 2012."

"The Prosecutor's Office received the report of the Council and issued an order to the Criminal Police Administration to gather the necessary information and investigate the claims from the report, and to provide additional information regarding the import and export of electricity,” Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljević told Tanjug.

In the report made public on April 16, the Council pointed to substantial discrepancies in the quantities and the prices of electricity imported and exported in the said period, which caused a drop in EPS revenues of approximately EUR 30 million.

If the August 2009 instruction of the Finance Ministry was followed, the figures should be identical, the Council pointed out earlier.
