New Democracy opposes to the draft document on refugee issue

Main opposition New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis opposed to the draft prepared on the refugee issue which criticizes Greece while attending the meeting of the European People’s Party group (EPP) which focus on migration and the formulation of a common asylum policy.

Mr. Meimarakis asked to remove the points where Greece is being criticized.

At the conference, as Spanish media report, a draft on territorial integrity will be introduced, something which is extremely important for Spain and Mariano Rajoy’s efforts to stop the Catalan independence movement, while a resolution of migration, refugee and asylum issues will be prepared.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Prime Minister of Ireland Enda Kenny, Prime Minister of Portugal Pedro Passos Coelho are attending the meeting of European People’s Party group.

Former president of France Nicolas Sarkozy and President of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker will also attend the meeting, while Silvio Berlusconi is expected to arrive and speak at Thursday night.
