Amendments to municipal statutes adopted

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- ouncilors of the Northern Mitrovica City Assembly unanimously adopted on Thursday the amendments to the municipal statute at a closed session.

Councilor Nedzad Ugljanin told Tanjug that all 16 assembly members who attended the session voted in favor of the amendments and that "new extraordinary elections" were thus avoided.

The amendments to the municipal statute were adopted at the request of the Kosovo Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government headed by Slobodan Petrović as the leader of the Independent Liberal Party.

The sessions to discuss the municipal statutes were also held in the other three northern Kosovo municipalities, Zvečan, Leposavić and Zubin Potok, whose mayors said that "technical and linguistical corrections" to the statutes had been adopted.

The adoption of the statute is the condition for constitution of Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo and Metohija and the constitution of the community of Serb municipalities also depends on this on grounds of the Brussels agreement on the normalization of the Belgrade-Priština relations, said Tanjug.
