Migration Minister expresses his concern over closing borders

Greek Migration Minister Yiannis Mouzalas  expressed his concerns on those who have asked the temporary exit of Greece from Schengen area, even thought European Union has not officially stated anything like that.

“I cannot tell you if there is a possibility of closing our borders, but our government should act as if there is this that possibility. What I can guarantee is that we struggle to end talks on that issue” Mr. Mouzalas stated speaking at private TV channel MEGA admitting that three months ago no one was talking about that.

He also said that views on Greece exiting the Schengen area do not represent the official view of European Commission and that issue was not discussed during the EU summit in Netherlands.

Mr. Mouzalas also added “We fight together with all Greek parties in Europe, and this is a very positive point”.

He also referred to the three-months deadline saying that ” Dombrovskis expressed his own opinion” adding that “we knew it would be a bad report because it was based on November’s data. The new report results will be good”.

Mr. Mouzalas also referred to Belgium’s proposal who, as he said, proposed “three incredible things: Greece to exit Schengen, make a camp for 400,000 people and push back the refugees and migrants. He did not say to drown them, but this is what will happen. I couldn’t answer, because it wasn’t my turn, but the other ministers told him that apart from an ethical issue there is also a practical issue”.
