Shops open Sunday; festive-season turnover boom seen, challenges remain 

Retail turnover is expected to surpass €4 billion this December, according to estimates from the retail sector, which is largely open for business Sunday. 

However, despite the positive sales projections, retail sector officials remain concerned about challenges once again faced by businesses this Christmas season. 

According to the latest edition of multinational professional services group EY's Future Consumer Index Greece, over half of respondents (54%) indicated they plan to spend about the same as last year, while only 4% intend to spend more. 

"Inflationary pressures persist, and retail businesses are expected to be impacted once again this festive season," said Vassilis Korkidis, director of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEP).
