Antalya kicks off International Aspendos Opera, Ballet Festival

The curtains have opened for the 31st International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, held at the historic Aspendos Ancient Theater, with a performance of Guiseppe Verdi's opera, "Aida."

Organized by the Directorate of State Opera and Ballet, the event drew significant attention from art enthusiasts, with nearly 3,000 spectators attending the first night.

Aspendos Festival preparations begin

The General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet has started preparations for the 31st International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, scheduled to take place in the southern province of Antalya from Sept. 13 to 26.

The works to be staged in the festival, which has been held for 30 years at the historical Aspendos Theater in Serik district, have been launched.

Cultural Road Festival to close in Antalya

The last leg of the Culture and Tourism Ministry's Cultural Road Festival will be held in the southern province of Antalya. More than 500 events will be held at nearly 50 locations during the event to be held between Nov. 4 and 12.

Events will be held at locations including the ancient city of Side, Cumhuriyet Square, Clock Tower, Konyaaltı, Kaleiçi and many other venues.

Istanbul Opera Festival kicks off

The 13th International Istanbul Opera Festival will start with the "7 Tenor" concert at Haliç Congress Center Open Air Stage on July 16. The event will feature four major opera works and a concert to be staged by the Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya State Opera and Ballet Directorates until July 30. All works within the scope of the festival will be staged at 9 p.m.

Pandemic process to be shown on ballet stage

A new ballet work titled "Pandemic," showing the COVID-19 process through artistic performance and dedicated to health care workers, will make its world premiere online.

Dedicated to heroic medics and featuring the pandemic process, the work is choreographed by Armağan Davran and Volkan Ersoy and will be staged by the Antalya State Opera and Ballet.

Ballerinas and singers sport flawless makeup and costumes onstage

Antalya State Opera and Ballet (DOB) artists undergo huge, and dramatic, transformations for every show, sometimes having to apply six hours of makeup for a two-hour show. Their makeup and costumes enthrall the audiences often, as the artists frequently perform characters from different eras, from the 1500's to the present day.
