Report: Solar power generation soared in 2018

Photovoltaic units installed in Greece generated three times more power last year than a year earlier, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) reported on Tuesday, citing the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies.
The report said that new photovoltaic power units installed in 2018 had a total capacity of 41.1 megawatts compared to 12.9 MW in 2017 and 5.4 MW in 2016.

Mother, child plunge to death from Athens balcony

A mother and her child plunged to their deaths from the fifth story of an apartment building in Neos Cosmos in Athens Tuesday.
According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), police were called to the scene by neighbors who said the mother first threw her child over the balcony before she jumped.
The identity of the woman and child were not immediately known.

German investments in Greece rise 3.5 bln euros

German investments in Greece rose by 3.5 billion euros last year and accounted for around 3 percent of the country's gross domestic product with an annual turnover of 7.7 billion euros, data from the Hellenic-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce published on Monday show.

According to the chamber, German firms also employed 27,000 workers in Greece last year.

Five injured in far-right violence at graduation ceremony

Protesters opposing the operation of a landfill in southeast Corfu clashed with police and barged into the Ionian island's regional government offices of on Tuesday, causing "material damage," Corfu Governor Nikoletta Pandi told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

Officers' weapons stolen from Pangrati home

Unknown individuals burgled the home of two police officers in Pangrati, central Athens, at the weekend and made off with two guns, magazines and cartridges, reports said on Monday.
According to police sources cited by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the burglers broke into the officers' home while they were absent and also stole a small amount of money.
