Arias & Duets | Athens | December 1

Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska and Greek baritone Dimitris Platanias join forces in a show at the Athens Concert Hall celebrating Giuseppe Verdi and the Verismo movement in opera, with emblematic arias and duets from the Italian composer's works. They will be accompanied by the Athens State Orchestra, conducted by Miltos Logiadis. The show starts at 8.30 p.m.

Chamber Music | Athens | October 31

Scorpions play the Kallimarmaro

Veteran German rock band the Scorpions performed to an audience of more than 40,000 people at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) on Monday night, accompanied by the Athens State Orchestra. Self-professed Hellenophiles, the band's lead singer Klaus Meine at one point in the performance borrowed a Greek flag from a fan in the crowd and wrapped himself in it. [EPA]

Kavakos Conducts | Thessaloniki | May 13

Internationally acclaimed violinist Leonidas Kavakos will be taking up the baton to conduct the Athens State Orchestra (KOA) in works by Bach and Bruckner at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall on Sunday, May 13. The ensemble will be joined by members of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall Youth Symphony and the KOA Academy for Young Musicians. Ticket prices range from 12 to 45 euros.

Gold Rush | Athens | March 2

The Athens State Orchestra lends its sound to a screening of Charlie Chaplin's kooky "Gold Rush," where the Little Tramp heads north to try his luck among the throngs of prospectors at Klondike. The music for the silent film of 1925 was composed by Chaplin and Max Terr in 1942. Tickets for the family-friendly, 8.30 p.m. show at the Athens Concert Hall cost 10-35 euros.

La Creation du Monde | Athens | February 3 & 4

The Athens State Orchestra will accompany graduates and students of the Greek National Opera's Dance School in a performance choreographed by Millicent Hodson and Kenneth Archer, titled "La Creation du Monde" and featuring music by Manuel de Falla and Darius Milhaud. The show at the Athens Concert Hall is organized in cooperation with the Fluxum Foundation. It starts at 8.30 p.m.

The orchestra will perform Alexander Glazunov's "Autumn" from the ballet "The Seasons," Alfred Schnittke's Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No 1 in G minor, opus 13.
