The Prague Philharmonic and the Athens State Orchestra join forces at the Herod Atticus Theater on Thursday and Friday, September 21 and 22, in a concert of hit tunes by rock bands including Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, AC/DC, Deep Purple and Scorpions in classical form.

Athens orchestra drops musician facing child abuse charges
The music teacher who was remanded in custody on Tuesday on charges of molesting three pre-teen students will face disciplinary action from the Athens State Orchestra (KOA) and its association of musicians.
KOA said in a statement that the "abhorrent" acts alleged to have been committed by flutist Panayiotis Drakos had shocked Greek society and the country's music community.
Musical Numbers | Athens | August 26
The Athens State Orchestra, with vocalists Vasia Zaharopoulou and Spyros Kleissas, will perform popular songs from musicals at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on Saturday, August 26. The show is free of charge and starts at 8.30 p.m. A free shuttle bus service runs between Syntagma Square and the SNFCC throughout the day, stopping at the Syngrou-Fix metro station.

Battleship Potemkin | Athens | July 5
The Greek Festival is screening Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 masterpiece "Battleship Potemkin" at the open-air Herods Atticus Theater on Wednesday, July 5, with live music from the Athens State Orchestra. Dmitri Shostakovich's symphonies 4, 5, 8, 10 and 11 accompany 65 minutes of breathtaking cinema under the baton of distinguished German conductor Jens Troester.

Adagio - Music for Easter | Athens | April 8
A special production titled "Adagio - Music for Easter," conceived by documenta 14 artists Ross Birrell and David Harding, will be staged at the Athens Concert Hall on Saturday, April 8, with the participation of soprano Racha Rizk, the Athens State Orchestra and members of the Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Raiskin.

Lucia di Lammermoor | Athens | March 13
Acclaimed opera singers and choirs of the City of Athens and state broadcaster ERT and the Athens State Orchestra will present Gaetano Donizetti's tragic opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" in concert form at the Athens Concert Hall on Monday, March 13. This bel canto jewel will be performed in the original Italian with Greek supertitles, and will be conducted by Loukas Karytinos.

The Athens State Orchestra will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Hans Pfitzner and Alexander Albrecht at the Athens Concert Hall on Saturday, December 17, and Sunday, December 18, as part of its Christmas concerts.
