Police in Athens this Friday were seeking the perpetrators behind two bank robberies in the suburb of Haidari.

The first occurred shortly after 11.20 a.m., targeting the Piraeus Bank branch on the grounds of the Attiko Hospital. Two armed assailants forced employees to hand over cash from the registers before fleeing with an unspecified sum.

A Pakistani man who fell victim to what appears to be a racially motived attack was released from a police precinct holding cell following reactions at his arrest while in hospital, Efimerida ton Syntakton has reported.

Patients must wait up to 16 months for surgery at state hospitals due to understaffing and inadequate equipment, according to the federation representing Greece's public hospital workers (POEDIN).
