The European Court of Justice (ECJ) had ruled Friday that gender and nationality alone were sufficient for a country to grant asylum to women from Afghanistan, where the ruling Taliban have sharply curtailed women's rights.

An Austrian Interior Ministry group of experts presented a report to officials on Wednesday suggesting a complete ban on the annual gathering in Bleiburg in southern Austria which commemorates tens of thousands of Croatian Nazi-allied Ustasa troops and civilians who were killed by the Yugoslav Partisans in 1945.

The World Jewish Congress, an international organisation representing Jewish communities, praised on Monday the Austrian parliament's adoption of a proposed ban on the annual commemoration of the killings of Croatian Nazi-allied troops and civilians at Bleiburg in Austria by the Yugoslav Partisans at the end of World War II.

The annual gathering in Bleiburg in Austria, which commemorates tens of thousands of Croatian Nazi-allied Ustasa troops and civilians who were killed by the Yugoslav Partisans in 1945, will not be held this year as planned on May 16, media reported on Tuesday.

Historian Hrvoje Klasic received the death threat letter at his office at Zagreb University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences on Wednesday after making public statements critical of the rehabilitation of the WWII fascist Ustasa movement in Croatian society.

Austria can't accept more than 100,000 migrants a year, the country's Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner has said.

"Around 90-100,000 - a lot more will simply not be possible," Reuters quoted Mitterlehner as telling ORF radio station on Monday.

Two men who entered Europe with members of the group that carried out the deadly Paris attacks have been arrested in the Austrian city of Salzburg, posing as refugees, Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported on Dec. 16.

The two Frenchmen, of Algerian and Pakistani origin, are being questioned by French and Austrian authorities, the newspaper reported. 

The suspected mastermind of the Paris attacks was questioned by German police at Cologne-Bonn airport early last year before he boarded a plane to Istanbul, Spiegel magazine reported on Nov. 19, quoting security officials. 

With scenes of thousands of illegal immigrants and refugees flooding the Greek islands of Kos, Lesbos and Leros making the news headlines all around the globe, it is interesting to see what the conditions are for refugees in other EU countries.
