Pitino wins first league title in Europe with Panathinaikos
Panathinaikos won its third consecutive and 38th overall league title on Friday, sweeping proud finalist Promitheas Patras with a 111-77 result at the Olympic Sports Hall and a 3-0 score in the best-of-five finals. Having also beaten PAOK in the final in February, the Greens completed yet another domestic double.

The semifinals of the Basket League started on Wednesday in the absence of Olympiakos that has got relegated for forfeiting the quarterfinals with Panathinaikos.

Greek basketball was dealt a devastating blow on Monday as Olympiakos eventually chose not to show up for the play-off match against Panathinaikos, which means the automatic relegation of the Reds to the A2 division.

Greek basketball descends into farce
The Basket League was thrown into chaos on Wednesday, after the personal threats to a referee at his home by Olympiakos fans led to his withdrawal from the Olympiakos vs Promitheas match, which in turn provoked Panathinaikos's forfeiting of its game with Kymi. The situation will hopefully be addressed at an emergency meeting of the league on Thursday.

Rethymno beat Peristeri on Crete and has virtually secured one more season in the Basket League, with just one round of games left, likely sending Kymi down despite the latter's home win over Lavrio. Olympiakos beat AEK away in a pair that will likely clash again in the play-offs.

Rethymno increases chances of staying in Basket League
All three teams that share the third spot in the Basket League suffered losses over the weekend, practically confirming AEK will finish second in the regular season and enjoy home advantage in the semifinals of the play-offs. However the most meaningful win of this round belonged to Rethymno.
