Slovenia to get firefighting aircraft before peak season

Slovenia signed a contract with the company Air Tractor Europe S.L. on 17 April for the purchase of four firefighting aircraft. The first two water bombers, two-seater aircraft, are due to arrive in Slovenia in June, just in time before peak fire season, and the other two, single-seaters, next year.

Kolpa river in flood, others swollen

Ljubljana – The water levels of rivers have increased overnight due to heavy rain, and the Kolpa river is flooding. Some other rivers, including the Ljubljanica and Krka, are likely to run over their banks as well. Most river levels will start to recede in the afternoon and will continue to do so in the coming days, the Environment Agency (ARSO) said.

Storms cause problems, two men killed by lighting in the mountains

Slovenian firefighters defend minefield from flames in N Macedonia

Skopje – Slovenian firefighters helping in the effort to put out wildfires in North Macedonia have protected buildings close to the eastern village of Budinarci from flames. With the help of a helicopter, they are also fighting a fire that has spread toward a minefield, the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration has said.

Delo: Draft audit report finds PPE purchases inefficient

Ljubljana – The Court of Audit has found the purchases of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the spring wave of coronavirus were inefficient, according to a leaked draft report obtained by the newspaper Delo. The report does not name anyone in particular as especially problematic.
