Danish People's Party (DPP), a nationalist-conservative party in Denmark, has lashed out at Turkish club Vatanspor for selling doner kebab at a stadium in Aarhus, the country's second biggest city, the daily Milliyet has reported.

"Traditionally, pork sausages are sold at Danish stadiums. This would disintegrate society," said Pia Kjaersgaard, the leader of the party.

Denmark looks set to become the next European country to restrict the burqa and the niqab, worn by some Muslim women, after most parties in the Danish parliament backed some sort of ban on facial coverings, reported Reuters. 

These are perilous times for democracy. In Greece, despite two national elections and one referendum in less than nine months in 2015, nearly half the electorate shunned the ballot box. Elsewhere in Europe, the 50 percent threshold was barely passed in parliamentary elections last year in Portugal and in Spain, where the outcomes were far from decisive.

Denmark's parliament passed measures on Jan. 26 aimed at deterring refugees from seeking asylum, including confiscating valuables to pay for their stay, despite protests from international human rights organisations.

Liberal party leader Lars Lokke Rasmussen was appointed Danish prime minister on June 28 and named ministers in a government that has a small minority in parliament and will have to rely heavily on outside support on a vote by vote basis. 

Denmark's center-right opposition won a parliamentary election after strong gains by an anti-immigration party that wants to limit the European Union's influence over the small Nordic country.
     

The opposition centre-right group, which is led by former Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen defeated the ruling centre-left coalition in the general elections, which were held in Denmark on Thursday.

Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt called on Wednesday an early general election to take place on June 18.

It is expected that her centre-left coalition will face a formidable challenge from the opposition, the BBC reports.

Denmark's largest purpose-built mosque, including the country's first minaret, opens on Thursday in Copenhagen's gritty northwest district after receiving 20.1 million euros ($27.2 million) endowment from Qatar.
