A Dutch couple who has made the Aegean province of Muğla their home has finally returned to the Turkish resort town after a month of being stranded in the Netherlands.

The tension between Turkey and European countries over allowing propaganda speeches for the April 16 referendum campaign reached a dangerous peak when the Dutch authorities barred a Turkish minister from entering the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam on the evening of March 11.

When, in the late 1950s, Kemal Nejat Kavur was serving as the Turkish ambassador to Moscow, Andrei Gromyko, the then Soviet Commissar for Foreign Affairs asked him: "Your Excellency, your country has the most number of men under arms in Europe. If it's against your traditional enemies, the Greeks, it is too big. If, on the other hand, it is against us, it's too small.

A group of demonstrators in central Istanbul protesting Russia's air strikes in Syria has targeted the Dutch Consulate instead of the Russian one. 

A group of protesters wanted to march to the Russian Consulate on ?stiklal Street late Nov. 20 to protest the air strikes in the Turkmen-controlled regions in northern Syria.

The traditions surrounding Sinterklaas have attracted increasing controversy in recent years, specifically in regard to the question of race with the role of Sinterklaas' helper, ‘Zwarte Piet' (Black Pete).
