Turkey received €1bn in EU money to develop democracy

Turkey has received almost €1 billion from the EU to support rule of law, civil society, fundamental rights, democracy and governance.

A European Commission spokesperson told EUobserver earlier this month some €979.6 million was paid out between 2007 and April this year with more likely to come given Turkey’s continued candidacy for EU membership.

EU Audit Office: Bulgaria With Perfect Record in 2015 Cohesion Policy Projects

Bulgaria is among the countries without any mistakes in the management of projects under the cohesion policy of the EU, showed the annual report of the European Court of Auditors on the implementation of the European budget for 2015, presented to the Council of Ministers by the Bulgarian representative in the institution Iliana Ivanova.

The European Court of Auditors said on Thursday that in comparison to projects in the field of rule of law, relatively small amounts of money had been allocated for financing projects in the field of freedom of the media, prosecutors' offices and the fight against organised crime and corruption.

EU Audit Office to Unveil Report on Kozloduy N-Plant Funding

The European Court of Auditors is set to publish its report on the use of EU funding by Kozloduy Nuclear power plant (NPP) in northern Bulgaria.

The document is to establish what progress Bulgaria has made in decommissioning the units and managing the radioactive waste. It will also contain a forecast about whether the funding disbursed will be sufficient.
