Work about to begin on expansion of Athens International Airport

It is estimated that the preliminary interventions will take place at Athens International Airport in the first quarter of 2025, so that with a time horizon of 2028, the country's largest airport will be able to welcome 33 million passengers.

Its terminal will increase by 81,000 square meters.

Air traffic keeps growing, contributing to delays

Airport traffic this month has resembled the peak of the summer season (end of July to beginning of August).

The increased air traffic is revealed by the data of the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) for the period from June 17 to 23, during which Greece was among the 10 European countries with the strongest flight activity.

Air traffic to increase in autumn as tourist season is extended

Air traffic in Greece from August 28 to October 22 is expected by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, commonly known as Eurocontrol, to be 10% to 30% higher than in 2022, due to the extension of the tourism season as more travelers opt for holidays outside the hottest months of the year.

The prospects for Greek tourism remain positive for the coming months, as the data from the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) show for the week up to and including September 10.

The National Airports Company of Bucharest (CNAB) has obtained the renewal of the certification of the Henri Coanda International Airport of Bucharest (AIHCB) under the ACI Europe Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, following a specialized audit carried out by international experts, CNAB informed in a release.

Eurocontrol Suspends Flights To And Above Crimea

The European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) has suspended all flights to and above Crimea, “until further notice”. 

According to ITAR-TASS, the organization explained its decision by the fact that the airspace over Crimea, is no longer controlled by Ukrainian air traffic controllers.
