Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Russia to end air strikes in Syria, accusing Moscow of targeting the opposition to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu on Oct.2 accused Russia of targeting moderate Syrian rebels in its air strikes in Syria to prop up the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said only with the help of Russia could Syria's civil war be brought to an end.

"For years we have known there can be a solution only with the help of Russia," Der Spiegel quotes her as saying on in a Thursday speech.

Russian airstrikes hit Syrian Turkmen, Syrian Turkmen Council head Abdurrahman Mustafa has said.

Mustafa stated that Russia hit the Free Syrian Army rather than the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). 

They have hit Türkmenda??, Humus and Hama, areas where many Turkmen live, he said, after contacting the regions via telephone on Sept. 30. 

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has made clear that his government cannot countenance the presence of either the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on its borders or the continuation of President Bashar al-Assad?s government, warning that a political transition that included al-Assad would inevitably turn into a permanent situation.

It is irony at its best, or utter hypocrisy in fact, to be critical of Russian meddling in Syria. Who has not been meddling in the Syrian conflict up until now?

France will carry out its first air strikes on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadist group in Syria "in the coming weeks," Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Sept.16.
 

A bomb placed in the car of a Free Syrian Army (FSA) commander has detonated in southeastern Turkey, while the commander is being treated for heavy injuries. 

An FSA commander identified as Cemil Radon was severely wounded when his car exploded at midday on Aug. 26 in Hatay province, on Turkey?s border with Syria.
