Film directors Elia Suleiman, Mounia Meddour and Jasmila Zbanic are the special guests of the Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest festival, which takes places between October 18 and 27 in Bucharest, informs a press release of the organisers sent to AGERPRES. Palestinian artist Elia Suleiman is the winner of the special prize of the jury of this year's edition of the festival on the Croisette.

College de France historian Patrick Boucheron will deliver a lecture titled "Between Ancient Greece and the Modern World," at the Athens Concert Hall on Thursday, March 28. The lecture, which starts at 7 p.m., is organized in cooperation with the French Embassy and Institute in Athens, and will be in French with simultaneous translation into Greek.

Police arrest leading member of Rouvikonas

A leading member of the self-styled anarchist group Rouvikonas was identified and arrested by Greek police for storming into the premises of the British Council in central Athens on Thursday morning.

According to reports, some 20 group members entered the council building, scattered flyers and shouted slogans about Syria before leaving.

A lawmaker of the ruling SYRIZA party said on Monday that the self-proclaimed anarchist group Rouvikonas is not a criminal group but a political one that engages in activism. 

Referring to the paint attack on the French Embassy and Consulate in Athens on Sunday, Giorgos Kyritsis told Skai TV on Monday that throwing paint is "a classic case of activism."

Foreign ministry condemns paint attack against French embassy

The foreign ministry condemned on Sunday the paint attack against the French embassy and consulate in Athens by self-proclaimed anarchist group Rouvikonas, saying all action is taken to bring those responsible to justice.

"We unequivocally condemn the damages caused by members of an anti-establishment group on the French embassy by throwing paint," the ministry said.

Attack against the French Embassy and Institute in Ouagadougou
