Starting his political career in the 1950s, Sezgin served in seven cabinets as minister throughout the 1990s. He died of multiple organ failure at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) on Dec. 7.

İsmet Sezgin, a former parliament speaker of Turkey, has died in Ankara at the age of 88.
Sezgin died of multiple organ failure at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) in Ankara, where he had been staying for nearly a month, the hospital stated on Dec. 7.
He was born in 1928 in the western Turkish province of Aydın.

Military doctors will receive education at civilian medical schools as part of new regulations introduced after the July 15 failed coup attempt, believed to have been masterminded by the Gülenist movement.
PKK kills three in Turkey's southeast
Three village guards were killed in an attack by outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the Yüksekova district of the southeastern province of Hakkari on Sept. 29. The militants opened fire on the village guards, killing three and leaving two others wounded.

Number of detained suspects in Ankara bombing rises to 20
The number of suspects detained over the Ankara car bomb attack has risen to 20 on Feb. 19, according to sources from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Police have conducted operations in Ankara, Adana, Bolu, Tekirda?, ?zmir, Istanbul, Diyarbak?r and Gaziantep provinces and detained a total of 20 suspects following the deadly attack.
