The Israeli military committed war crimes during its Gaza offensive this summer and must be investigated, human rights monitor Amnesty International said on Dec. 9.
      
The destruction of four multi-story buildings during the last four days of the 50-day war were in breach of international humanitarian law, the group said in a report.
      

The Palestinian Health Ministry said Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian in the northern Gaza Strip on Nov. 23, the first such fatality since a 50-day Gaza war ended in August. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

The ministry identified the man as Fadel Mohammed Halawa, 32, and said he was shot by soldiers east of Jabalya refugee camp.

Israel believes the militant group Hezbollah has probably dug tunnels across the border from Lebanon in preparation for any future war although it has no conclusive evidence, an Israeli army general said on Wednesday.
   

Israeli air strikes killed four Palestinians in Gaza on Friday as European governments sought UN action to end more than six weeks of bloodshed.
      

Eighteen Palestinians have been killed and 120 wounded by Israeli strikes across Gaza since the collapse of a temporary truce, medics said on Aug. 20.        

Hamas said Aug. 20 that an Israeli air strike killed the wife and child of its Gaza military chief, as a temporary ceasefire went up in smoke and Cairo truce talks froze.

Israel and the Palestinians renewed a truce that had largely tempered a five-week-old war, but the deal got off to a shaky start on Aug. 14 with rockets from Gaza slamming into Israel and Israel retaliating with air strikes.

Israel launched more than 20 aerial attacks in Gaza on August 9, killing five Palestinians, and militants fired rockets at Israel as the conflict entered a second month, defying international efforts to negotiate an agreement for an extended ceasefire.
