Serbian public debt at 50.9 pct of GDP at end-August
BELGRADE - Serbia's public debt amounted to 35.206 bln euros at the end of August 2023, accounting for 50.9 pct of the national GDP, according to figures released by the Ministry of Finance.
One month before, the debt stood at 35.070 bln euros, accounting for 50.7 pct of GDP.
Serbian government adopts 2024 budget bill
BELGRADE - The Serbian government adopted the 2024 budget bill on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance confirmed to Tanjug.
It said the bill was expected to be passed by the parliament by the end of this month.
The bill envisions a 3.5 pct GDP growth rate in 2024.

Serbia registers 37.6 bln dinar budget surplus in January-July
BELGRADE - Serbia registered a 37.6 bln dinar budget surplus between January and July, which is 123.6 bln dinars better than the planned 86 bln deficit, the Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday.
Revenues totalled 1,089 bln dinars, while expenditures amounted to 1,051.4 bln dinars.
A 23.1 bln dinar surplus was registered in July, the ministry said in a statement.
Flexibility for civil servants in Cyprus
The Council of Ministers of Cyprus, at its meeting last week, approved a policy framework aimed at regulating flexible employment within the public service. This initiative aligns with the implementation of the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026.

Some subsidies to continue as handout expectations are dampened
Government plans call for a gradual withdrawal of income support measures, as the country must once again produce significant primary budget surpluses. Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance has tried to contain expectations of handouts at Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' keynote speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair on September 9.
Tax revenue exceeds goals, but officials try to dampen handout expectations
Tax revenue in July exceeded the government's expectations, meaning that it will be able to achieve the primary budget surplus demanded by the European Union.
But Ministry of Finance officials were trying Thursday to dampen excessive expectations of handouts to be announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) early next month.
Race to absorb EU funds
The Ministry of Finance is preparing the final revision of the 2014-20 Partnership Agreement with the hope of absorbing the total amount of the €23.5 billion - €19.73 billion from the European Structural and Investment Funds and the rest in matching funds provided by Greece - allocated to 11 "Thematic Objectives" plus technical assistance.
