Philippe Bertinchamps, a correspondent for various French-language media, was granted a temporary one-year residence permit by Serbia on Monday after Reporters Without Borders, RSF complained that he had been threatened with expulsion for being an "obstacle to public order and national security".

446 kilos of drugs incinerated at power plant
BELGRADE -- The Interior Ministry has incinerated about 446 kilograms of illegal narcotics and other psychoactive substances at the Nikola Tesla power plant in Obrenovac.
In a statement, the MUP said that the value of the drugs was around a billion Serbian dinars (RSD) - about EUR 8.3 million.

BELGRADE -- B92 has unofficially learned that the new commander of the MUP Gendarmerie (Zandarmerija) will be Goran Dragovic.
Dragovic until now served as commander of MUP's Counter-Terrorist Unit (PTJ).

MUP interested in CoE expert support
BELGRADE - The Serbian interior ministry (MUP) is interested in receiving expert support from the Council of Europe (CoE) Office in Belgrade in professional development and improvement of the ministry's work concerning the respect of human rights, police work in local community, the fight against crime and corruption, Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Friday.

Hundreds evacuated from flood-hit areas in east
KLADOVO -- Rain continues to fall in eastern Serbia on Tuesday, where flash flooding on Monday wreaked havoc in several municipalities.
According to the MUP Emergency Situations Sector, 370 people have been evacuated from villages along the Danube River, some by boat.

BELGRADE -- The Serbian police have found the body of Tijana J., a 15-year-old girl that went missing in the town of Bajmok, in northern Serbia, on July 26.
The police also have a suspect for her abduction and murder it custody, the MUP has confirmed for B92.

Djuric signals plan for KiM's economic recovery
BELGRADE - Marko Djuric, director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo-Metohija (KiM), said on Friday that it is necessary to make a plan for the province's economic recovery, as the social and economic situation in KiM is bad, with 60-70 percent of people in the Serb-majority areas being jobless.

Štrpce war crimes case "largely solved"
BELGRADE -- The case of the murder of passengers abducted from a train in Štrpce 21 years ago is now "largely solved," Bruno Vekarić has said.
There are more than 20 suspects in the territories of Serbia and Bosnia, the Serbian deputy war crimes prosecutor told B92.
