Bulgaria's Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassation requested of the US Department of State additional information on the case of imposing sanctions on three Bulgarian nationals under the Magnitsky Act.

Bulgaria's Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassation requested from the US Department of State additional information on the case of imposing sanctions on three Bulgarian nationals under the Magnitsky Act, BTA learned on Thursday from  the prosecuting magistracy.

The Security Council will held a meeting today at the Council of Ministers' building. Caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev summoned deputy prime ministers, ministers, representatives of the special services, as well as the chief of defense services. The agenda of the meeting will be the current risks and threats to the national security.

Acting on its own initiative, Bulgaria's prosecution service has instituted six case files after the US Treasury Department and State Department announced on Wednesday that they are sanctioning a total of six Bulgarians over their involvement in significant corruption.

The first man named is oligarch-in-exile, art dealer and former football and gambling boss Vassil Bojkov, alias The Skull, who fled the country to Dubai in January 2020 amid numerous charges.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned three Bulgarian individuals for their extensive roles in corruption in Bulgaria, as well as their networks encompassing 64 entities, the US Embassy in Bulgaria announced on June 2.
