Israel kills 77 in Gaza, pounds Lebanon as war rages on after a year
At least 77 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured in Israeli attacks Monday on many points in the Gaza Strip, according to health sources as it intensified its strikes in Lebanon.
The Israeli army continued its attacks on the northern, southern and central parts of the besieged enclave on the first anniversary of the Israel-Hamas war.
Intense Israeli bombing rocks Beirut
A huge fireball lit up the night sky and plumes of smoke rose over south Beirut early Sunday as Israel unleashed intense air strikes targeting Hezbollah, nearly a year since the Gaza war erupted.
Israeli forces were on high alert ahead of Monday's anniversary of Hamas's Oct. 7 attack, which sparked the war.

Israel bombarded south Beirut at least 10 times late Thursday, Lebanese sources said, after it launched its deadliest strike on the occupied West Bank in decades.

Deadly strike on central Beirut after Israel, Iran trade threats
Israel carried out a deadly air raid Thursday in central Beirut after eight ground troops were killed near the Lebanese border, as it traded threats with its arch foe Iran over possible future attacks.
Hamas says its leader in Lebanon killed in air strike
Palestinian group Hamas said its leader in Lebanon was killed Monday in a strike on the country's south, as official media reported a strike on a Palestinian refugee camp.
"Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amine, the leader of Hamas... in Lebanon and member of the movement's leadership abroad" was killed in an air strike on his "home in the Al-Bass camp in south Lebanon", a Hamas statement said.
Lebanon facing deadliest period 'in a generation'
The U.N. on Sept. 27 decried the escalation in Israeli attacks targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon as "catastrophic," warning the country was facing its deadliest period in years.
"The recent escalations in Lebanon are nothing short of catastrophic," said Imran Riza, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon.

Sirens sound in Tel Aviv after fresh air strikes reported in Lebanon
Israeli warplanes pounded villages in south Lebanon for a third day, Lebanese media reported Wednesday, while Israel said it intercepted a missile fired after sirens sounded early morning in Tel Aviv.
Lebanese officials said hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled their homes in the south this week to avoid fighting between Hezbollah and the Israeli military.
