Ricky Ford & Kirk Lightsey | Athens | February 9-12

Celebrated tenor sax player Ricky Ford returns to Athens after 20 years for a series of a shows at the Half Note Jazz Club, where he teams up with another acclaimed jazz musician, pianist Kirk Lightsey. The two artists will perform pieces that mark some of the highlights of their remarkable careers. Shows start at 10.30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 9.30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

Tribute to Billie | Athens | To November 27

Alabama-born, Minnesota-raised vocalist Charmin Michelle pays tribute to Billie Holiday at the Half Note Jazz Club, where she is performing standards immortalized by the great Lady Day. Michelle's delivery has been hailed by critics as capturing the spirit of old-school jazz in a fresh manner, unadorned by nostalgia.

Martha High | Athens | November 3-6

Soul diva Martha High comes to Greece for a short residency at the Half Note Jazz Club with the Soul Cookers band. The vocalist broke out on the gospel and jazz scene in the 1960s after going on tour with James Brown as a backing singer, and went on to perform with some of the greatest names of the genre, later evolving into disco and funk.

Wallace Roney | Athens | October 20-23

American jazz trumpeter Wallace Roney - the only trumpet player personally mentored by Miles Davis and thus regarded as the legend's heir - will be playing at the Half Note Jazz Club from Friday to Monday, October 20 to 23. He will be joined by Oscar Williams II on piano, Emilio Modeste on tenor sax, Curtis Lundy on double bass and Eric Allen on drums. Shows start at 10.30 p.m.

Kostas Hatzis | Athens | May 5-8

Romani singer-songwriter Kostas Hatzis, a balladeer who uses his music to carry powerful social messages, will be performing at the Half Note Jazz Club from May 5-8. The shows will include much-loved songs from throughout his 40-year career, during which he has appeared with some of Greece's biggest singers and bands. Performances start at 10.30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 9.30 p.m.

Harold Mabern Trio | Athens | March 30 - April 2

Back after a sold-out run last year, the Harold Mabern Trio performs modern post-bop at the Half Note Jazz Club from Thursday, March 30, through Sunday, April 2. Shows start at 9.30 p.m. and ticket prices range from 20 to 30 euros, depending on seating. They can be purchased in advance online at www.viva.gr.
