A state of alert has been declared at the headquarters of the six candidates for the leadership of PASOK as the polls will open in just a few hours – tomorrow, Sunday, at 7 a.m.

Greetings! So, these past few days I read in Proto Thema and on protothema.gr the excellent commemorative piece by Panos Loukakos, marking 50 years of New Democracy, which is being celebrated today. The highly engaging novel-like text on the 50 years of New Democracy naturally focuses on its founder, Konstantinos Karamanlis, and the chosen title is a quote from him: “Am I the right-winger?

New Democracy maintains a large lead over PASOK, which is consolidating in second place, according to a major MRB poll aired on OPEN’s main newscast. Nikos Androulakis has a lead over PASOK a few days before the first round of elections, with Charis Doukas following close behind.

The voting intention

The intra-party race in PASOK has entered the final stretch with the movement’s presidential candidates making their keynote speeches as the first election Sunday of October 6 approaches.

Anna Diamantopoulou is currently presenting her plan for the necessary changes in the country and the “next day” of PASOK, speaking at her main pre-election event in Athens.

The six PASOK leaders’ candidates appear ready for the first “half-time” of the race, attempting in the 24 hours remaining until next Sunday to “open up” to wider audiences and attract as many undecided voters as possible around their candidacy.

With the belief that the momentum is now for PASOK, Nadia Giannakopoulou, the party’s leadership candidate, has made “clear positions” and contemporary discourse her “flag” for the emergence of a convincing governance proposal.

The Ethics, Statutes, and Certification Committee (EDEKAP) of PASOK-Movement for Change completed the required review of signatures submitted for the nomination of presidential candidates on Wednesday, 11/09/2024.

The deadline for submitting the required signatures by PASOK leadership candidates is tonight at 9 PM. The Ethics Committee will review the lists and determine which candidates meet the necessary criteria.

Opposition party PASOK will hold two debates as part of its leadership contest.

Party spokesman Thanasis Glavinas said the debates will take place "both before the first round and before the second round of the internal party elections."

Today, September 3rd, marks 50 years since Andreas Papandreou founded PASOK, a political party that came to play a key role in Greece from the restoration of democracy to the financial crisis.
