Bulgarian Parliament to Elect New Central Bank Governor on July 14

The Bulgarian Parliament will elect the new governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) on July 14.

Bulgarian MPs decided on Friday to hold the hearing of the four candidates at an extraordinary sitting on July 14, daily Dnevnik reports.

The resignation of incumbent governor Ivan Iskrov, which had been announced in June, entered into force on Friday.

Nationalist Alliance Patriotic Front to Keep Supporting Bulgaria's Government

Nationalist formation the Patriotic Front (PF) has made clear that it will continue to back the government.

Bulgarian Socialist Opposition Refuses Heading Constitutional Changes Committee

The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) refused to head the parliamentary committee on constitutional amendments.

Earlier on Wednesday, the main ruling party GERB proposed to BSP to head the committee, which will be established after the constitutional amendments were tabled to parliament on Tuesday.

MPs from Bulgaria's Ruling Coalition Table Constitutional Amendments

Bulgarian MPs, coming from parties participating in the coalition government or supporting it, tabled on Tuesday the amendments to the constitution concerning the judicial reform.

The MPs supporting the changes are from the main ruling party GERB, its junior coalition partner the Reformist Bloc (RB) and one of the parties supporting the government - the Patriotic Front (PF).

Poll: 2nd Term of Bulgarian PM Borisov Has Higher Approval Rating

According to the latest opinion poll of Exacta, the first months of the second term of Boyko Borisov as Prime Minister garnered a higher approval rating among Bulgarians than his first tenure.

The negative views on the government's policies continued to prevail over the positive ones, with 54 % of Bulgarians expressing dissatisfaction, while 32 % were content.

Gallup: 40% of Bulgarians Would Not Vote in General Election

According to the latest political and economic index of Gallup International, which was released on Wednesday, 40% of eligible Bulgarians would not vote if parliamentary elections were held now.

The survey revealed no significant changes in the public attitudes compared to March, when the initially positive attitude towards the current minority coalition government started to fade.
