Man held for strangling father to death on Christmas Day

Police on Crete on Friday remanded in custody a 34-year-old man who on Christmas Day strangled his 61-year-old father to death in his home in the area of Fortezza in the city of Rethymno.

According to the 34-year-old's lawyer, the attack was an "accident" that followed a heated dispute between the two men.

Two arrested on Crete in connection with ax murder

Police on Crete Wednesday detained two foreign nationals, a man and a woman, in connection with the death of a Romanian man believed to have been hit on the head with an ax. The body of the Romanian man, believed to be aged around 35, was found in a derelict building in the center of the city of Hania. 

Girl, 11, gives birth, alleged 14-year-old father sought

Police on Crete are seeking a 14-year-old Roma youth believed to be the father of a child born to an 11-year-old girl on Sunday. Sources indicated Tuesday that the 14-year-old is the girl’s cousin.

Officers have been seeking the youth since May when the girl’s mother reported him to police, claiming that he had molested the 11-year-old.

Charred body found in burnt car on Crete

Police on Crete were seeking to determine on Wednesday the exact cause of death of a man aged around 60 whose charred remains were found in his car near the coastal port of Kissamos in the island’s northwest late on Tuesday.

Police and a local coroner both ruled out foul play in connection with the death of the man whose body was found hanging out of the driver’s door of the vehicle.

Police in Hania investigate explosion at real estate agency

Police on Crete are investigating a blast that caused significant damage to a real estate agency in the village of Almyrida, in Hania.

Authorities were dispatched to the village at around 5 a.m. on Saturday after a homemade explosive device went off outside the business, causing extensive damage to the building’s interior and exterior.
