Turkish top civilian and security officials came together Dec. 15 under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to review measures against potential terror incidents following twin suicide attacks in Istanbul over the weekend.

It also followed Erdoğan's statement that a national mobilization against terror should be launched.

A Turkish prosecutor assigned to terror cases escaped unharmed late on Dec. 7 after unknown assailants fired on his car in Istanbul's Sultangazi district.

A Belgian prosecutor on Dec. 5 sought a 30-year jail term in absentia for an outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) member being tried for crimes committed in Turkey and for being an accomplice in the 1996 assassination of the former head of Sabancı Holding, one of Turkey's top family-owned industrial conglomerates. 

Germany has detained a suspected member of the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C) in Hamburg, officials said on Dec. 3.      

The activities of a total of 370 associations in 39 provinces across Turkey have been terminated over their alleged links to terror organizations, the Interior Ministry announced on Nov. 11.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has rejected an accusation by his Turkish counterpart that Germany backs the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), saying such organizations were banned in Germany.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan lashed out at German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Nov. 3 over her criticism of the detention of daily Cumhuriyet journalists, saying "Germany harbors terrorism."

An expert report presented to a court hearing in the murder case of Dilek Doğan, who was killed by a police officer during a house raid in 2015, has showed that the raw images that could have had a major impact on the case were deleted from camera records.
